STCP Management Overview

A regional program management structure has been developed to support and link the pilot projects and regional activities. The key components are:

  • Regional program management
  • National pilot project management
  • Oversight

The STCP management organizational framework was designed to be slim and efficient, and will use a regional mechanism to allow knowledge to move across borders and thus generate efficiencies and synergies. An STCP Regional Office, including a program manager, a regional technical team, and the necessary support staff, has been established at the Humid Forest Ecoregional Center of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The STCP regional program will be managed through this STCP Regional Office and its associated National Coordination Units. The regional technical team will assist the pilot projects in the implementation of their program by providing technical expertise and at the same time ensuring a regional context to the interventions. The technical team will provide expertise in impact assessment, technology dissemination, and trade and information systems.

The Child Labor Regional Project will be hosted and managed by the International Labor Organization (ILO) through its international program on the elimination of child labor (IPEC). The regional child labour technical expertise will be housed in the ILO/IPEC regional office.

Each country will have one National Pilot Project Manager to coordinate the implementation of the pilot project(s) and assist with national liaison. A national committee will advise the manager. The specific structure will have to be adapted to the needs of each country.

A National Network of interest groups will be formed (if not already) and informed of the key findings and experiences of STCP. It will assist in the networking necessary to ensure the integration of the STCP effort into the national envelope.

The STCP Steering Committee, consisting of 15 members from farmers groups, industry/trade, funding agencies, national network chairs and the program host institution is providing general oversight to the STCP program as a whole.

A Donor Alliance Committee has been established to ensure a broad-based public-private partnership to support the STCP efforts. A Liaison Office in Washington DC will use part-time staffing to assist in maintaining clear communication channels across the Alliance and within the program.

Communication materials and tools (including the STCP internet website and intranet site) will be continually developed and updated to serve the Alliance and to contribute to program's visibility at large.
